TEP Invites Nonprofit Groups to Apply for up to $100,000 in Grants by Aug. 16

TUCSON, Ariz., Jul 28, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Tucson Electric Power Company (TEP) will award up to $100,000 in grants to nonprofit organizations that assist at-risk children, teens, families and seniors.

TEP's annual Grants That Make a Difference program will award grants of $2,500 to $10,000 to agency programs that have demonstrated an ability to improve the lives of others. Successful applicants will be able to demonstrate their ability to collaborate with other organizations and to leverage resources through programs that produce measureable and reasonable results. Applicants also should be able to demonstrate financial stability and program sustainability.

To be eligible, agencies must have 501(c)(3) charitable status, a record of reliability, fiscal health, volunteer involvement and must be administering program services in either TEP's service territory or in communities near TEP's Springerville Generating Station. Schools, churches and governments are eligible to apply for funding when providing social services in collaboration with a 501(c)(3) organization. Grant applications and guidelines are available exclusively online at tep.com. To be considered for funding, applications must be received in UniSource Energy Corporation's headquarters in Tucson before 5 p.m. on Monday, August 16. A committee of TEP employee volunteers will evaluate the merits of competing proposals to choose grant recipients. Grants will be awarded in November.

Now in its tenth year, TEP's Grants That Make a Difference program has awarded more than $751,000 to charitable organizations. Grants That Make a Difference is part of TEP's award-winning community service program, which provides philanthropic gifts, in-kind services and the donated hours of employee volunteers to nonprofit organizations. Last year, employees of TEP joined their friends and family to contribute more than 36,000 volunteer hours to worthy causes in Arizona.
